A question we get regularily: how often should I re-scent my HODAG setup or mock scrape? Here's the straight answer — plus a four-situation cheat sheet so you know exactly what to do with the scrape in front of you.
"When should I re-scent?"
After the first setup and scenting, if deer are using it consistently — we don't re-scent.
The deer are doing it for us. And they're doing it with the best scent there is: the natural deer scent that comes straight from them.
Every mature buck that stops at your scent hub leaves his signature. Every doe that checks it deposits her mark. Every fawn that plays with it adds to the pile. That layered, real-deer scent profile is something no bottled product on any shelf can match. It's authentic, it's fresh, and it's specifically the scent every other deer in your area is coming to check on.
Your job is to start the conversation. The deer's job is to keep it going.

AllSeason Scent isn't there to keep your scrape smelling like something forever. It's there for one specific job: get that first interaction.
Think of it like a fire hydrant next to a sidewalk. The moment one dog lifts his leg and marks it, every dog that walks by afterward can't help but do the same. One mark starts a chain reaction. That chain reaction is the whole point.
That's what AllSeason Scent does at a fresh HODAG setup. It gives the first curious deer — usually a doe, fawn, or young buck — a reason to stop, sniff, and leave their own scent behind. Once that first deer marks the spot, the next deer that walks past can't help but do the same. And the next. And the next.
Within a couple weeks, you've gone from an untouched setup to a full-blown scent hub with a rotating cast of local deer keeping it active. Your bottle of AllSeason Scent isn't the product doing the work anymore. The deer are.
That's why we don't tell hunters to re-scent every week. In most cases, you'd be covering up a better scent profile than you could ever create yourself.

Four situations. Read the one that matches your setup.
Re-scent it for the new season.
If you have a HODAG setup thats been out since last year, like our HODAG HempScent Rope System, open up the scrape or scent hub, clear the area with a weed whacker, remove debris that accumulated over the off-season, and freshen the rope with scent. Then scent it again to stimulate new interaction as this year's deer patterns take shape.
If you are using our HODAG Licking Branch System or Licking Stick System, do all the same steps but put a new stick/branch in for the new season!
Deer that used it last year will re-engage fast. New deer in the area will investigate. The setup is already familiar ground — you're just waking it back up.
Give it a week or two, then re-scent. If it's still quiet, move it.
A brand-new setup needs time for the first curious deer to find it. If your trail cam shows no interaction after a week or two, hit it with AllSeason Scent again to trigger that first interaction.
If it's still quiet a week after the second scenting, the problem isn't the scent — it's the location. Pick it up and move it to a different spot: closer to a travel corridor, into a food plot, near a water source, on a saddle, along an edge. Scent it again at the new spot and start the clock over.
Location is the single most important part of a successful mock scrape. No amount of scent will save a setup that's in the wrong place.
Hit it with Sweet November Rut Scent.
If a setup that was hot in September is starting to cool down, the deer aren't losing interest in the concept — they're shifting into a different phase. Their attention is moving toward the pre-rut. Their scent priorities are changing.
That's the perfect moment to switch scents. HODAG Sweet November Rut Scent is formulated for exactly this window. It hits the receptors that are firing hardest as testosterone rises and bucks start checking scrapes with more purpose.
Especially valuable if you're already at that location — hanging a stand, walking to a blind, checking a camera. A quick shot of Sweet November on the branch keeps the hub relevant right through the phase where it matters most.
Leave it alone.
If your trail cam shows steady deer activity — bucks working the branch, does checking in, fresh scrapes under the setup — do not touch it.
The deer are scenting it for you with the natural scent that's better than anything you can buy. Every visit deposits real deer scent that's more attractive to the next deer than any bottled product on any shelf. Interference at this point is a downgrade.
Sit back. Let it run.

Once we're heading into the pre-rut and rut timeframes, we switch to refreshing existing setups and making new mock scrapes with HODAG Sweet November Rut Scent.
That includes:
Sweet November is the tool for the season within the season. If AllSeason is the fire hydrant, Sweet November is the perfume the deer are already thinking about the moment they walk in.

If you take one thing from all of this, take this:
Our scent starts the conversation. The deer keep it going.
Scent early, scent smart, and then get out of the way. The deer will tell you what to do next by what shows up on your trail cam.
